New SHOT SHOW 2017: AIMPOINT S1 “Special SHOTGUN” Shotgun.

April 13, 2020: Superb shot of 4 targets launched by hand and fired with a semi-automatic WINCHESTER equipped with an AIMPOINT S1. Note the position of the S1 very forward on the weapon:

September 01, 2017: New presentation video of the AIMPOINT S-1 for shotgun:

Please note that the S-1 is positioned on the front third of the rifle and not where the optics are normally placed. This is normal, aiming is more natural. Respect this assembly.

For what ? For a question of target acquisition speed. This montage perfectly illustrates the –good– technique according to which you must first point the tip of your weapon (handlebar) at the target and then see that the red dot is right on the target. All you have to do is squeeze the trigger. Absence of tunnel effect, unobstructed field of vision.

The AIMPOINT S1 has just been presented at the SHOT SHOW in LAS VEGAS. It is the copy of the T1-T2 (military) or the H1-H2 (civilian) except that the S1 is equipped with a 6 MOA red dot. I say 6 MOA! Water resistant to 5 meters.

See the article:

Aimpoint-2-4-or-6 MOA. Ratio of distances/MOA values.

Why a 6 MOA? because it is an AIMPOINT designed for shotgun shooting, therefore at short and medium range: “The big, bright 6 MOA red dot provides an optimal combination of target acquisition speed and visibility”.  "The large 6 MOA dot size provides speed and speed of target acquisition."

« The new Aimpoint® Micro S-1 was designed specifically for use on shotguns. The innovative carbon fiber reinforced mounting system positions the optic on the lowest possible optical axis – without adding unnecessary weight. The Micro S-1 sight attaches directly to the shotgun at any point along the ventilated rib, and interchangeable adapter plates are included to accommodate most popular shotgun rib sizes”.

Thanks to DAVID for the translation: (NDR: Basically the S1 can be installed directly on a ventilated strip (ventilated rib) without special mounting, it is supplied with several mounting bases for the most popular shotguns (interchangeable adapter plates are included to accommodate most popular shotgun rib sizes).

The highlights highlighted in this video:

  • “It is not a Picatinny rail, but a specific rail for ventilated tape”. I don't see how this is a strong point, it's just an observation!
  • “The optics are 3mm from the barrel”, so very low.

Note the claw that comes to tighten on the ventilated band. Photo “THE FIREARM BLOG”

“The Micro S-1 greatly enhances hit percentage for waterfowl and upland bird hunters, as well as on the sporting clays course, and provides a compact, low-profile optic for turkey and deer shotgun hunters. The big, bright 6 MOA red dot provides an optimal combination of target acquisition speed and visibility. This sight incorporates many of the design advances Aimpoint has learned over 20 years of service with the US military, so reliability in the field is unmatched”.

September 2017: Updated article.  I have an “ESCORT” semi-auto and I would like to eventually put an AIMPOINT S-1 in it at the end of the barrel.

I found the rare pearl at SHOOTING DROME :  I couldn't get them on the phone, but in my opinion there is no reason why he only goes on MOSSBERGs! (It is made by them so they preach for their chapel). A 12 gun is a 12 gun! To do with them by phone. At 39 €uros you do not risk much.

  1. hello I bought an Aimpoint micro S1 point. my gunsmith says that the fixings provided are incompatible with my ventilated carbon strip of my benelli crio comfort rifle. is there another set up? waiting to find a solution before putting it on sale thank you.

    1. There must be a fixing system: milling or other?

Ask the question on the two forums: and and come back and give me the answer. THANKS

  2. Hello, please note that it is impossible to install the Micro S1 on my benelli crio shotgun because the carbon strip is incompatible with the fixing provided. I am looking for a solution before proceeding with the sale of the red dot. THANKS

  3. Considering the "advance" necessary when using a rifle, one wonders what the usefulness of such a precise sighting might be, apart from shooting at immobile animals. On the hunt for the dahu, against the slope, perhaps...

  4. Hello,
    It's been 2 years since I put a H1 2 MOA on my Bettinsoli cal 12 over-and-under.
I had bought a special base to attach it directly to the band.
I often use it to shoot lead deer, it's going well!
